HITRUST is a resource I use to keep current on information security as it relates to healthcare. In addition, it is an organization that supports the belief that information security should be a “core pillar of, rather than an obstacle to, the broad adoption of health information systems and exchanges.” HITECH has established the CSF (common security framework) that can be used by any and all organizations that create, access, store or exchange personal health information. It provides an even more comprehensive framework for managing information security than the HIPAA rules.
HITRUST is partnering with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to conduct monthly cyber threat briefings to aid organizations in better understanding current and probable cyber threats relevant to the healthcare industry and to share best practices for cyber threat defense and response. You can register, at no cost, to participate in monthly cyber threat briefings and to participate in the cyber alerting system, called C3 Alert, which is coordinated with the Healthcare Public Health Sector and Government Coordinating Councils.
If you’d like to receive the HITRUST C3 Alerts and/or participate in the monthly cyber threat briefing, click on the following link to register.
